Azov and Black Sea Basin Throughput in September Down 4.6%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in September 2020 decreased by 4.6% year-on-year. Import declined by 6.8%, cabotage by 10.9%, transit was down 21.4%. Export, on the contrary, grew by 1.5%.

    The share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in September 2020 amounted to 32.2%.

    Almost half of the total was oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 27.4% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 20.5%. The share of grain amounted to 26.1%.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the metal scrap segment (up 6.6-fold), reefer cargos (up 4-fold) and grain (+47.6%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were ferry cargo (-93%), Ro-Ro (-92.8%) and sugar (-92.6%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 51.5% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in September. Рort Kavkaz handled 11%, and Tuapse 10.1% of the total.
