Vympel Shipyard has started cutting steel for the 12,000-ton floating dock to be built for Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, United Shipbuilding Corporation said in a statement.
The new dock is designed for serving large-tonnage vessels and ships. It will be equipped with state of the art control and ballasting systems, and a video monitoring system.
To build more than 300 sections of the dock, 9,000 tons of metal will be used. After the steel is cut, welding operations will start, the welded structures will be assembled into separate components, which will be put together to form the sections of the dock.
The sections built at Vympel will be shipped by sea to Yantar to assemble the hull and equip is with systems and mechanisms.
The dock was designed by Almaz Marine Engineering Bureau, part of United Shipbuilding Corporation.
