St. Petersburg-based Modul has made its MIREX direct service between St. Petersburg and India weekly, with five sailings a month in both directions. This will allow of increasing the volume transported three-fold, the company said in a statement.
Modul launched the service in June 2022, with 1,094 TEU laden with paper and pulp, chemicals, fertilizers, construction materials and spare parts loaded from Petrolesport terminal in St. Petersburg for the first voyage to Nhava Sheva. The back load consisted of textiles, rice, chemicals, medicines, and equipment. In December 2022, Modul added another vessel to the service and included Chennai and Mundra into the port rotation.
At present, the service calls at all the major Indian ports including Calcutta and Vizag and offers transshipment onto feeder services to Cri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. The new weekly schedule was introduced in response to the growing demand.
During the 12 months since the launch of the service it carried more than 20,000 TEU including reefer and tank containers as well as high and heavy cargo.
According to Modul, cargo from India includes food products like rice, frozen vegetables and meat products, construction and finishing materials, textile products like yarn and cloth, and medicines. Russian exports include fertilizers and chemical products. High and heavy and hazardous cargo is also accepted.
