The block train that operates China – Europe – China route via Kaliningrad region has delivered the first container for a consignee located in Kaliningrad.
The 40’ unit laden with consumer goods traveled 8 days from Chongqing to the station of Szerzhinskaya-Novaya.
It was a pilot project aimed to test block train delivery as an alternative to shipping by sea.
By the end of Half 2, 2019, Kaliningrad Railway expects to increase deliveries designated for local consignees up to 100 containers per month.
In 2018, the total container traffic carried by Kaliningrad Railway made 150 thousand TEU, up 24% year-on-year.
