Foreign Trade via Baltic Customs Up 51% in January 2022

    Foreign trade via the Baltic Customs made $3.84 mn during January 2022, up 51.2% year-on-year.

    The number of cargo declarations issued amounted to more than 28.1 thousand, up 22.8%, including 24.9 thousand import declarations (up 23.5%) and 3.1 thousand export ones (up 18%).

    90% of all the cargo declarations submitted to the Baltic Customs were registered automatically and 27.5% were automatically cleared.

    In terms of tonnage, over 1.6 mn tons of cargo was declared via the Baltic Customs, down 45.3% year-on-year. Import traffic was up 26.9% to 885.6 thousand tons, while export declined by 68.7% down to 676.5 thousand tons.

    A significant share in the import volume was fruit making 22.25% of the total. Other top import commodities were polymer materials, inorganic chemical products, equipment, ore, stag and ash.

    The top export commodities were timber accounting for 30.53% of the total, ore, stag and ash, salt, sulphur, soil and stones, fertilizers, paper and board.

    The major countries of origin for import cargo in the Baltic Customs region in January 2022 were China, Ecuador, Germany, Morocco, and India.

    The top countries of destination for export via the Baltic Customs were China with a share of 34.7%, Norway and Lithuania.
