Container Traffic via Russian Ports Up 5.2% in December 2020

    The article is based on SeaNews PORTSTAT online service (available for SeaNews subsribers).

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in December 2020 increased by 5.2% year-on-year.

    Cabotage grew by 2.9%, import by 9.5%, and transit was up 42.9%. Export remained much on the 2019 level (+0.1%).

    Laden container throughput via the Russian sea ports was up 9%. Reefer containers accounted for 14.8% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 85.2%. Imports made 57.2% of all the laden containers, exports 32.8%, cabotage 10.7%, and transit 3.8%.

    Empty container traffic decreased by 5.8%.

    The Baltic basin accounted for 43.24% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian sea ports in December. The Far East basin handled 36.12%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 17.54%, the Arctic basin for 3.05% and the Caspian basin for 0.04% of the total.
