Far East Basin Ports’ Throughput in August 2020 Up 8.4%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in August 2020 increased by 8.4% year-on-year. Transit grew by 20.7%, export was up 10.8%, and import up 3.1%. Cabotage was down 8.7%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in August 2020 amounted to 28%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure was coal, oil and products. In August, coal and coke accounted for 52.7% of the total volume, crude oil for 19.8% and oil products for 4.7%. Containerized cargo constituted 8.6% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth rate was in the non-ferrous metals segment (up 5.6-fold), grain (up 4.3-fold) and chemical and mineral fertilizers (up 2.2-fold).

    The commodities that decreased the most were ferry cargo (-43.8%), oil products (-31.7%) and reefer cargo (-26.3%).

    Vostochny accounted for 32.3% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in August. Vanino handled 13.9%, and Nakhodka 11.6% of the total.
