Far East Basin Ports’ Throughput in June 2020: Non-Ferrous Metals Up

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in June 2020 decreased by 1.4% year-on-year. Transit was down 8.7%, cabotage down 6.3%, and export down 1.1%. Import grew by 6.1%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in June 2020 amounted to 31.1%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure is coal, oil and products. In June, coal and coke accounted for 49.7% of the total volume, crude oil for 22.4% and oil products for 6.3%. Containerized cargo constituted 8.5% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth rate was in the non-ferrous metals segment (up 2.3-fold), ore (+34.1%) and chemical and mineral fertilizers (+27.8%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were grain (-65.6%), metal scrap (-55.9%) and piece cargo (-41.5%).

    Vostochny accounted for 33.4% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in June. Vanino handled 13.9%, and Nakhodka 11.7% of the total.
