Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in December 2021 Up 38.9%

  • The total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in December 2021 grew by 38.9% year-on-year.

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, import was up 12.2%, and export up 2.7-fold. Cabotage, on the contrary, declined by 63%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in December 2021 amounted to 0.05%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was up 28.9%. Reefer containers were non-existent in December 2021. Imports made 74.1% of all the laden containers, exports 20.7%, cabotage 5.2%.

    Empty container traffic surged by 66%.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 75.9% of the aggregate container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in December. Olya handled 24.1% of the total.
