Azov and Black Sea Basin Throughput in August 2021: Reefers Cargo Up

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in August 2021 increased by 2.6% year-on-year. Import grew by 7.5%, export was up 16.4%. Transit declined by 17.5%, and cabotage decreased by 38.8%.

    The share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in August 2021 amounted to 32.5%.

    Almost half of the total was oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 25.3% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 23.1%. Grain constituted 26.4% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the sugar segment (up 6.1-fold), reefers cargo (up 5.6-fold), Ro-Ro (up 5.5-fold).

    The commodities that decreased the most were other bulk (suction) (-78.7%), other bulk (grab) (-41.5%) and other general cargo (-30.7%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 48.6% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in August. Taman handled 13.8%, and port Kavkaz 11.2% of the total.
