Container Traffic via Russian Ports Up 0.4% in August 2021

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in August 2021 increased by 0.4% year-on-year.

    Import grew by 1%, export by 6.5%, and transit surged 4-fold. Cabotage, on the contrary, declined by 29%.

    Laden container throughput via the Russian sea ports was up 5.5%. Reefer containers accounted for 8% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 92%. Imports made 48.9% of all the laden containers, exports 36%, cabotage 10.5%, and transit 4.6%.

    Empty container traffic decreased by 17.9%.

    The Baltic basin accounted for 44.1% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian sea ports in August. The Far East basin handled 41.2%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 11.8%, the Arctic basin for 2.9% and the Caspian basin for 0.05% of the total.
