Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 3, 2021

  • Freight rates in the Azov and Black Sea region continued growing on week 3, 2021. Ship owners ask $35 pmt for a 3,000 tons parcel from Azov to Marmara, Sea Lines shipbrokers report. The number of cargoes in the market is growing while spot tonnage is declining due to the export dues for wheat to come into force in Russia soon.

For the time being, charterers are shipping wheat postponing loading other grains for the second half of February, when the export due for wheat comes into force. Experts expect that wheat export in February can drop two-fold. In the anticipation of the export due, the interest in Russian wheat and, consequently, the prices for it have grown, and it is now exported not only to Turkey, but also to Egypt, Lebanon, Greece and Spain.

On week 3, freight rates for 3,000-5,000 dwt bulkers from the port of Azov increased.

According to Sea Lines, freight rates from Azov made $33 to the Black Sea, $35 to Marmara, $47 to Mersin and $51 to Egypt.

Freight rates from Rostov AB (after bridge) are $1 above, from Rostov BB (before bridge) the same, from Yeisk and Taganrog $1 below, and from Temryuk $3 below those from the port of Azov.

In the Caspian, freight rates lost $2.

On week 3, freight rates for shipping corn by 3,000 dwt bulkers to Iran made $18 from Aktau, $19 from Makhachkala, and $21 from Astrakhan.
