Arctic Basin Ports’ Throughput in November 2020: Coal and Coke Down

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin ports in November 2020 decreased by 9.9%. Cabotage declined by 4.4%, export was down 12.7%, and import down 17.4%.

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in November 2020 amounted to 11.4%.

    42.7% of the total cargo traffic was crude oil, LNG accounted for 21.6% and coal and coke for 14.9%.

    The highest growth was in the other bulk (grab) segment (up 3.2-fold), piece cargo (up 2.7-fold) and other general cargo (up 2.2-fold).

    The commodities that decreased the most were metal scrap (-57.1%), reefer cargo (-31.1%), and coal and coke (-28%).

    Murmansk accounted for 57.5% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in November. Sabetta handled 29.5%, and Varandey 4.4% of the total.
