Container Traffic via Far East Basin Ports in August Up 12.4%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Far East basin ports in August 2020 increased by 12.4% year-on-year. Cabotage grew by 25.8%, import was up 10.1%, and export up 1.2%. Transit, on the contrary, was down 19.3%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in August 2020 amounted to 39.4%.

    Laden container throughput in the Far East increased by 18.6% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 6.5% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 93.5%. Imports made 42.4% of all the laden containers, cabotage 35.7%, exports 18.2% and transit 3.7%.

    Empty container traffic was down 1.4%.

    The port of Vladivostok accounted for 54.5% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in August. Vostochny handled 21.3%, and Korsakov 8.4% of the total.
