Container Traffic via Russian Ports Up 1.3% in August 2020

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in August 2020 increased by 1.3% year-on-year.

    Import container traffic declined by 1.8%, export by 3.3%, and transit by 19.9%. Cabotage, on the contrary, grew by 22.8%.

    Laden container throughput via the Russian sea ports was up 1.9%. Reefer containers accounted for 8.5% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 91.5%. Imports made 48.8% of all the laden containers, exports 34.3%, cabotage 15.5%, and transit 1.4%.

    Empty container traffic decreased by 0.5%.

    The Baltic basin accounted for 44.7% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian sea ports in August. The Far East basin handled 39.4%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 12.4%, the Arctic basin for 3.4% and the Caspian basin for 0.1% of the total.
