Freight Rates from Ust-Luga, Week 36, 2020

  • The upwards trend in the Baltic large-tonnage bulker market continued into week 36. According to Sea Line ship brokers, rates for shipping coal to Europe and grain to Poland are growing.

Earlier, a large number of ships left the Baltic region without waiting for the market to improve, and the deficit of tonnage has resulted in a significant increase in rates for coasters.

Many charterers expect that by the end of September the number of cargoes is going to drop and are planning their shipments for that period in hope to benefit from lower rates.

On week 36, freight rates for 30,000-35,000 dwt bulkers from Ust-Luga in the Baltic went up, according to Sea Lines.

Last week, rates on the Ust-Luga – Continent – Ust-Luga routes were $17 pmt, rates from Ust-Luga to ARAG made $18 pmt.

Rates from Ust-Luga were $22 pmt to West Med rates, and $25 pmt to East Med.

Rates for 30,000-35,000 dwt bulkers from Ust-Luga to the Black Sea amounted to $27 pmt, rates to the Persian Gulf were $42 pmt.

The rates for 3,000-5,000 dwt bulkers also grew.

Rates from Ust-Luga to Klaipeda were €9.5 pmt, and those to Riga and Stockholm were €12 pmt.

Freight rates from Ust-Luga to Hamburg made €16 pmt, and to Bremerhaven €17 pmt.
