Container Traffic via Russian Ports Down 7.8% in June 2020

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in June 2020 decreased by 7.8% year-on-year.

    Import container traffic declined by 15.2%, export by 7.1%, and transit by 30.7%. Cabotage, on the contrary, grew by 16.4%.

    Laden container throughput via the Russian sea ports was down 8.8%. Reefer containers accounted for 10.2% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 89.8%. Imports made 47.2% of all the laden containers, exports 38.2%, cabotage 13.4%, and transit 1.5%.

    Empty container traffic declined by 3.9%.

    The Baltic basin accounted for 43.6% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian sea ports in June. The Far Eastern basin handled 39.2%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 14.1%, the Arctic basin for 3% and the Caspian basin for 0.1% of the total.
