Container Traffic via Arctic Basin Ports in August 2020 Up 11.3%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Arctic basin ports in August 2020 increased by 11.3% year-on-year. Cabotage, which accounts for the major share of the total, grew by 10.5%. Export surged 3-fold. Import declined by 2.6%.

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in August 2020 amounted to 3.4%.

    Laden container throughput in the Arctic grew by 3.5% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 3.2% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 96.8%. Cabotage made 95.07% of all the laden containers, imports 2.48%, and exports 2.45%.

    Empty container traffic increased by 24.5%.

    The port of Arkhangelsk accounted for 30.5% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in August. Dudinka handled 28.1% of the total, and Murmansk 20.5%.
