Fish Export from Russia Up in Q1 2020

    According to SeaNews Russian Foreign Trade Customs Statistics online service, in Q1 2020 Russia exported 474.2 thousand tons (+4.3%) of fish worth USD 786.1 mn (+11.2%).

    Frozen fish accounted for more than 90% of shipments in terms of tonnage and for 83.5% in monetary terms. In Q1 2020, frozen fish export increased by 5.2% up to 441.5 thousand tons worth $656.4 mn, up 12% year-on-year. Frozen pollock prevails in exports. 327.7 thousand tons of frozen fish worth $440.2 million was exported to China, and 78.2 thousand tons worth $ 124.6 mn to South Korea.

    Export of fillets and other fish parts decreased by 7.6% down to 30.3 thousand tons in terms of tonnage, in monetary terms, on the contrary, it increased by 6% up to $122.7 mn. Most of this was pollock. 17.6 thousand tons of fillets and other fish meat worth $50.9 mn was shipped to South Korea, and 5.4 thousand tons worth $36.5 mn to the Netherlands.

    During the first quarter of 2020, fish was exported from Russia to 43 countries, the major importers being China, Republic of Korea and the Netherlands.

    Exports to China by 6.1% up to 327.7 thousand tons in terms of tonnage and by 13.3% up to $440.3 bn in monetary terms. Most of the volume was frozen pollock.

    Shipments to Republic of Korea increased by 6.7% up to 95.8 thousand tons worth $175.5 mn (+5.6%). Most of these were frozen pollock and frozen cod, frozen pollock fillet, as well as frozen liver, caviar and milt.

    Fish exports to the Netherlands amounted to 17.2 thousand tons (+35.4%) worth $75.5 million (+32%). Frozen cod, frozen haddock, frozen haddock fillet and cod prevailed.
