Container Traffic via Far East Basin Ports in April: Transit Down

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Far East basin ports in April 2020 increased by 12,7% year-on-year. Export grew by 23.6%, import was up 16.5%, cabotage up 15.2%. Transit, on the contrary, dropped by 49.5%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in April 2020 amounted to 36%.

    Laden container throughput in the Far East grew by 15.8% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 8.5% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 91.5%. Imports made 41.4% of all the laden containers, exports 27.3%, cabotage 27.1% and transit 4.2%.

    Empty container traffic was up 5.9%.

    The port of Vladivostok accounted for 56.2% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in April. Vostochny handled 25.1%, and Korsakov 8.2% of the total.
