  • According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput of the Russian sea ports in February 2020 remained much on the previous year’s level (-0.3%).

    Cabotage was down 1.3%. Import declined slightly by 0.4%, and export by 0.6%. Transit grew by 2.8%.

    More than 50% in the Russian sea ports’ commodity structure is oil and products. In February, crude oil accounted for 33.4% of the total volume and oil products for 20.3%. Coal and coke constituted 18% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the other bulk segment (suction) (+59.8%), foodstuffs (+54.8%) and metal scrap (+44.8%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were ferry cargo (-33.3%), chemical and mineral fertilizers (-26.8%) and Ro-Ro (-21.4%).

    The Baltic basin accounted for 32.6% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian sea ports in February. The Azov and Black Sea basin handled 29.5%, the Far East basin accounted for 24.6%, the Arctic basin for 12.2% and the Caspian basin for 1.1% of the total.
