Russia’s Nuclear Lighter Carrier to Transport Fish

  • The state corporation Rosatom is to complete the modernization of the nuclear lighter carrier “Sevmorput”. The unique vessel will then be used for the transportation of fish.

    According to Rosatom, the current reefer capacity of the lighter carrier is 200 40’ reefer containers. The vessel is to come to the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the Russian Far East on August 1, and make at least two voyages carrying fish this year.

    Atomflot, the operator of Russia’s nuclear-powered fleet, is to inform the RF Agency for Fisheries, about the pricing, and the fisheries are to define the shipment volume, so voyages could be planned.

    For loading, the Seroglazka terminal in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is expected to be used, for discharge two destinations are being considered, Arkhangelsk and Ust-Luga.

    At present, the “Sevmorput” is being deployed carrying cargo from Arkhangelsk to Sabetta, according to Rosmorport.
