Rail Export via Ports Up 5%

  • According to Russian Railways, the loading of export designated cargo destined for Russian ports made 128.9 mn tons during January-May 2018 increasing 5% year-on-year.

    45.7% of the entire volume is coal. Oil accounts for 26.7%, ferrous metals for 9%, fertilizers for 6.9%, and grains for 4.2% of the loading volume.

    Coal loading grew 4%, ferrous metals were up 6%, fertilizers up 12.8%, grains up 65.9%, paper up 7% and timber and logs up 17.1% year-on-year.

    55.4 mn tons, 9.9% more than in January-February 2017, was designated for the North-West sea ports.

    The South region ports accounted for 31.9 mn tons, down 2.5% year-on-year.

    The volume loaded for the ports of the Russian Far East grew 5% to make 41.5 mn tons.

    In May, export cargo loading designated for Russian sea ports increased 3.5% year-on-year amounting to 26.5 mn tons.
