According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput of the Baltic basin sea ports in September 2021 grew by 13% year-on-year. Export increased by 13.2%, and cabotage by 36.8%. Transit surged 2.6-fold. Import, on the contrary, declined by 6.4%.
The share of the Baltic basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian sea ports amounted to 29.7% in September 2021.
Almost half of the total was oil and products, with accounting oil products for 25.1% of the overall throughput, and crude oil for 24.5%. Coal and coke amounting to 20.7%.
It should be noted that the highest growth was in grain (+84.5%), non-ferrous metals (+78.2%) and ferrous metals (+74.5%) segments.
The commodities that decreased the most were other bulk (suction) (-58.6%), piece cargo (-10.1%) and timber and logs (-7.9%).
Ust-Luga accounted for 44.5% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Baltic basin sea ports in September 2021, the Big Port of St. Petersburg handled 25%, and Primorsk 19% of the total.
