Far East Basin Ports’ Throughput in July 2021: Non-Ferrous Metals Down

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in July 2021 decreased by 9.2% year-by-year.

    Export declined by 10.3%, transit by 10.6%, and cabotage was down 17.5%. Import, on the contrary, grew by 32.8%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in July 2021 amounted to 25.3%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure is coal, oil and products. In July 2021, coal and coke accounted for 46.2% of the total volume, crude oil for 23.7% and oil products for 7.7%. Containerized cargo made 10.2% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth rate was in the chemical and mineral fertilizers segment (+84.8%), ro-ro (+76.3%) and reefer cargo (+63.2%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were grain (-63.8%), liquefied gas (-56.1%) and non-ferrous metals (-42.7%).

    Vostochny accounted for 34% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in July. Vanino handled 15.8%, and Vladivostok 14.2% of the total.
