Azov and Black Sea Basin Throughput in December 2020: Sugar Up

    The article is based on SeaNews PORTSTAT online service (available for SeaNews subsribers).

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in December 2020 decreased by 11.5% year-on-year. Export declined by 8.1%, transit by 12.3%, and cabotage by 47.5%. Import, on the contrary, grew by 9.4%.

    The share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in December 2020 amounted to 30.3%.

    More than half of the total was oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 30.4% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 22.75%. The share of grain cargoes amounted to 19.5%.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the sugar segment (up 2.3-fold), reefers cargo (+46.4%), and ore (+27.7%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were Ro-Ro (-72.7%), timber and logs (-65%) and other bulk (suction) cargo (-50.4%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 58% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in December. Tuapse handled 11.8%, and Taman 11.1% of the total.
