Azov and Black Sea Basin Throughput in October Down 2.5%

    The article is based on SeaNews PORTSTAT online service (available for SeaNews subsribers).

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in October 2020 decreased by 2.5% year-on-year. Cabotage declined by 1.6%, import by 2.8%, and transit by 14.1%. Export, on the contrary, grew by 1.1%.

    The share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in October 2020 amounted to 32.3%.

    Almost half of the total was oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 29% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 19.2%. The share of grain amounted to 25.3%.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the reefer cargo segment (up 4-fold), metal scrap (up 3.6-fold) and ore (+67.2%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were ro-ro (-76.1%), sugar (-68.8%) and liquefied gas (-49.1%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 52.6% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in October. Рort Kavkaz handled 11.1%, and Taman 9.3% of the total.
