Russian Ports’ Throughput in August 2020 Down 4.7%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput of the Russian sea ports in August 2020 decreased by 4.7% year-on-year.

    Import was down 10.6%, transit down 9%. Cabotage declined by 4.1%, and export by 4%.

    Almost 50% in the Russian sea ports’ commodity structure was oil and products. In August, crude oil accounted for 25.7% of the total volume and oil products for 15.2%. Coal and coke constituted 25.2% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the grain segment (+39.2%), other general cargo (+19.8%) and ore (+18.2%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were sugar (-81.7%), liquid chemicals (-56.4%) and ferry cargo (-42.8%).

    The Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 31.9% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian sea ports in August. The Far Eastern basin handled 28%, the Baltic basin accounted for 26%, the Arctic basin for 13.1% and the Caspian basin for 1% of the total.
