Russian Ports’ Throughput in June 2020 Down 15.7%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput of the Russian sea ports in June 2020 decreased by 15.7% year-on-year.

    Transit was down 31.1%, export down 14.4%. Import declined by 13.6%, and cabotage by 12.2%.

    More than 50% in the Russian sea ports’ commodity structure was oil and products. In June, crude oil accounted for 27.4% of the total volume and oil products for 17.3%. Coal and coke constituted 24.6% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the ore segment (+60.3%), ferrous metals (+37.1%) and other bulk (grab) cargo (+34.3%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were sugar (-78.4%), grain (-56.2%) and crude oil (-34%).

    In June, the Far Eastern basin ports handled the largest share of the total cargo throughput  for the first time in at least past three years, their share amounting to 31%. The Baltic basin handled 28.9%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 28.9%, the Arctic basin for 10% and the Caspian basin for 1.2% of the total.
