Azov and Black Sea Basin Throughput in April: Grain Up 2.7-fold

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in April 2020 grew by 27.2% year-on-year. Cabotage surged by 67.2%, export was up 28.2%, transit up 17.2, and import increased slightly by 0.9%.

    The share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in April 2020 amounted to 30.7%.

    More than half of the total was oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 34.7% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 20.8%. Grain has the third largest share in the aggregate throughput amounting to 18%.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the grain segment (up 2.7-fold), ore (up 2.6-fold) and reefer cargo (up 2.4-fold).

    The commodities that decreased the most were timber and logs cargo (-75.2%), Ro-Ro (-66.3%) and metal scrap (-36.2%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 59.5% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in April. Tuapse handled 9.4%, and port Kavkaz 8.2% of the total.
