ASPO Yard Starts Cutting Steel for Dock Construction

  • Astrakhan-based ASPO Shipyard has started cutting steel for a 25,000-ton capacity transfer floating dock, United Shipbuilding Corporation said in a statement. The keel laying ceremony is scheduled for December this year.

    The contract for building the transfer dock was concluded between Southern Shipbuilding and Shiprepair Center, part of Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation, and St. Petersburg-based Severnaya Verf Shipyard. The technical design was developed by Almaz Marine Engineering Bureau, also part of USC.

    ASPO Shipyard has already received 6,000 tons of steel for building the dock, and another 14,000 tons pf 30-mm thick rolled steel is to be delivered.

    The floating transfer dock is aimed for launching and lifting from water vessels and other maritime structures up to 250х48 meters large and up to 25,000 tons heavy in order to survey, repair and paint them.

    • Slipway deck length: 177.6 m,
    • Width: 62 m,
    • Board height: 24.3 m,
    • Capacity: 25,000 tons,
    • Maximum immersion: 20.6 m,
    • Crew: 21 person.
