Global Ports will purchase two new ship-to-shore cranes for its Far Eastern terminal Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company (VSC) in the port of Vostochny in the Primorsky Kray, the company said in a statement.
A memorandum of intent to order the portside container handling equipment was signed between Global Ports and Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Company (ZPMC) at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia, on 12 September 2023.
The cranes, to be delivered by the end of 2024, will enhance the Far Eastern terminal’s equipment fleet, and increase berth throughput capacity by 18% to 1.1 million TEU per year.
The new STS will be capable of handling post-Panamax class vessels using Twin Lift technology, which allows two 20ft containers to be picked up and moved simultaneously in one lift, with no weight restrictions regardless of the reach.
The spreader stabilization system will allow of handling containerships at a wind speed 2 m/s higher than those allowed for the STS cranes currently in use at VSC today.
The cranes allow for automation of live-mode container data exchange with the terminal operating system, speeding up the cargo handling process and reducing the risk of human error.
In 2023, VSC commissioned 2 new heavy-duty mobile cranes with a lifting capacity of 144 tons. In 2023-2024, the terminal will receive 9 RTG and RMG cranes and more than 20 units of other port and storage equipment.
