First Floating LNG Storage Unit Arrives at Kamchatka

  • The floating LNG storage unit “Koryak PKhG” has been towed to the Bechevinskaya Bay area in the Port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the RF Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot) reports.

The “Koryak” is the first floating LNG storage unit delivered to the construction site of the East maritime LNG complex developed by Novatek on the Kamchatka Peninsula. To provide towage and anchorage services, several tugboat ranging in capacity from 5,000 to 20,000 hp are deployed. The installation operations are expected to take some 10 days.

The “Koryak” is a non-self-propelled floating unit 400 meters long, 60 meters wide with a draft of 12.2 meters when laden and a storage capacity of 360,000 cubic meters. The LNG terminal in the Bechevinskaya Bay will have two such storage units.

The terminal will be used to transship LNG delivered by Arctic LNG tankers onto gas carriers without an ice class that will deliver it to consumers in the Asian Pacific Region.
