Russian Transport Sector Freight Volume in Q1 2023

  • During the first quarter of 2023, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was up 5.8% year-on-year to 1.82 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, the largest volume was carried by road, up 10.4% year-on-year to some 1.22 bn tons.

    Rail freight declined by 0.6% year-on-year down to 306.3 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was down 4.5% year-on-year to 285.8 mn tons.

    Sea freight grew by 32.3% year-on-year up to 7.7 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume declined by 17.7% year-on-year down to 5.1 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 100 thousand tons, down 58.7% year-on-year.

    In March 2023, freight transportation by all transport modes increased month-on-month.
