Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 4, 2022

  • On week 4, there is a slight increase in rates in the Azov and Black Sea region after a short drop of several dollars recorded at the end of last week. According to Sea Lines shipbrokers, contracts for a 3K parcel of wheat from Azov to the Marmara Sea ports are concluded at the level of $39 pmt.

The increase is due to the unfavorable weather conditions in the Marmara Sea, where, as a result of a snowstorm, traffic in the Bosphorus Strait was closed for several days and unloading operations are delayed. In general, the Turkish market is not showing positive dynamics at the moment, the demand is still very low. Such destinations as Italy and Greece are more popular. Commodity-wise, wheat, corn and bran are most actively exported.

The export tax on wheat is reduced for the second consecutive week and will amount to $95.8 per ton as from January, 26. The export fee for barley will be reduced from $79 to $74.4 per ton, and that for corn will increase up to $50.6 per ton. The new export fee rates will be valid until February, 1.

According to Sea Lines, on week 4, freight rates for wheat parcels from Azov make $37 to the Black Sea, $39 to Marmara, $60 to Mersin and $65 to Egypt.

Freight rates from Rostov AB (after bridge) are $1 above, from Rostov BB (before bridge) the same, from Yeisk and Taganrog $1 below, and from Temryuk $3 below those from the port of Azov.

In the Caspian, freight rates from Astrakhan and Makhachkala dropped.

On week 4, freight rates for shipping corn by 3,000 dwt bulkers to Iran make $23 from Aktau, $25 from Makhachkala, and $32 from Astrakhan.
