Arctic Basin Ports’ Throughput in September 2021: Oil Products Down

  • The total cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin ports in September 2021 increased by 1.3% year-on-year.

    The article is based on SeaNews PORTSTAT online service (available for SeaNews subsribers).

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, export grew by 0.7%, and cabotage was up 3.1%. Import, on the contrary, declined by 10.3%

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in September 2021 amounted to 11.4%.

    40.2% of the total cargo traffic was crude oil, LNG accounted for 21% and coal and coke for 17.5%.

    The highest growth was in the non-ferrous metals (+78.3%), other general cargo (+43.1%) and containerized cargo (+28.2%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were ferrous metals (-35.2%), timber and logs (-25.2%), and oil products (-18.5%).

    Murmansk accounted for 54.9% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in September. Sabetta handled 29.2%, and Varandey 4.4% of the total.
