On week 42 freight rates continue to go up in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea region. A 3K wheat parcel from the port of Azov to Marmara ports will cost $44 pmt.
According to Sea Lines shipbrokers, the increase in rates is primarily due to the lack of spot vessels. Most charterers are searching for vessels opening this week to ship wheat and corn before the introduction of a new export fee.
During October 20 through October 27, the export due for wheat is $61.3 per ton, that for corn increased up to $48.4 per ton, and that for barley is slightly down to $45.9 per ton.
This week long-distance destinations such as Mersin, Italy, Greece, Greek and Turkish Cyprus became more popular, as a result of which there is an increase in rates for these destinations, Sea Lines report.
In most cases charterers consider shipments for the beginning and middle of November. In addition to the grains subject to the export fee, shipments of peas, meal and some other cargoes with high stowage are actively calculated for these directions, Sea Lines report.
On week 42, freight rates for 3,000-5,000 dwt bulkers from the port of Azov moved up.
According to Sea Lines, freight rates for wheat parcels from Azov made $42 to the Black Sea, $44 to Marmara, $62 to Mersin and $64 to Egypt.
Freight rates from Rostov AB (after bridge) are $1 above, from Rostov BB (before bridge) the same, from Yeisk and Taganrog $1 below, and from Temryuk $3 below those from the port of Azov.
