NSR Freight Traffic Up 4.5% YoY

  • 25.66 mn tons of cargo was carried via the Northern Sea Route since the year start till October 14, 2021, up more than 4.5% up year-on-year, the RF Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport reports quoting the Northern Sea Route basin administration.

    Transit via the Northern Sea Route surged by more than 1.-8-fold from 849 thousand tons up to 1.5 mn tons. LNG and condensed gas transportation from the port of Sabetta grew from 15.2 mn tons in 2020 up to 15.5 mn tons this year.

    1,120 permits to transit the Northern Sea Route was sued during January 14 – October 14, 2021, almost 18% above the number of permits issued during the same period of 2020, when 944 permits were issued.

    The number of permits issued to foreign-flagged vessels made 150, 2 permits fewer than during the same period of 2020.
