Russia’s “Kapitan Khlebnikov” Icebreaker Sets Off on Antarctic Mission

  • Rosmorport-operated icebreaker “Kapitan Khlebnikov” has embarked on expedition to deliver personnel and cargo to the Russian Antarctic research station of Vostok. On October 6, the icebreaker left the port of Vladivostok with some 7.5 thousand miles ahead to Tala Bay in the Antarctic.

    The icebreaker will escort vessels that will deliver construction cargo and components for the new station complex as well as passengers and personnel. There are 114 passengers and 52 crew on board.

    The “Kapitan Khlebnikov” is expected to be back to Vladivostok in December after completing the Antarctic mission.
