Sibanthracite Ship First Coal by Northern Sea Route

  • Last week, the bulker “Roland Oldendorff” left the Yug-2 terminal in the Russian Baltic port of Ust-Luga near St. Petersburg with 99.2 thousand tons of coal produced by Sibanthracite Group. This is the first shipment the company has made using the Northern Sea Route. The coal is designated for the Republic of Korea.

    Sibanthracite said it intends to continue using the Northern Sea Route, which is economically viable for the company which exports 94% of its products. During January-September 2021, Sibanthracite sold 16.7 mn tons of coal, up 28% year-on-year. The Group loads export designated coal from the Russian Far Eastern ports, Taman in South Russia, and the ports of the Northwest region.

    The new logistics scheme via the Northern Sea Route allows of expanding export to the Asian Pacific Region.

    In 2021-2022, Sibanthracite plans to increased production responding to the growing demand in the global markets and the favourable prices.
