Arctic Basin Ports’ Throughput in August 2021: Liquefied Gas Down

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin ports in August 2021 decreased by 14.9% year-on-year.

    Cabotage dropped by 57.5%, and import was down 38.6%. Export, on the contrary, grew by 10.2%

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in August 2021 amounted to 11.1%.

    44.4% of the total cargo traffic was crude oil, coal and coke accounted for 17.3% and LNG for 13.3%.

    The highest growth was in the piece cargo (+80.1%), reefer cargo (+56.8%) and ferrous metals (+37.8%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were chemical and mineral fertilizers (-45.4%), liquefied gas (-32.2%), and coal and coke (-22.2%).

    Murmansk accounted for 58.7% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in August. Sabetta handled 22.7%, and Varandey 5.3% of the total.
