First Arctic Container Vessel for Northern Sea Route in 2025

  • Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation said it plans to deploy the first Arctic container vessel on the Northern Sea Route in 2025.

    A plot series of 6,000 TEU ice class container ships is planned to be built, Alexander Bryntsev, Director, Shipbuilding and Transport Infrastructure, Rusatom Cargo, said at a conference.

    Rosatom expects to announce a tender to design the vessels by the end of 2021. The cost of the vessels will depend on the design, Rosatom press office quote Yekaterina Lyakhova, Director, Economics and Investment, Rosatom.

    Earlier this year, Rosatom signed an agreement to develop Northern Transit Corridor as a viable and sustainable route between Asia and Europe with DP World.

    Under the agreement, the parties will establish a joint venture, which will invest in, build and operate transport and logistics capacity along the Northern Transit Corridor.
