Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in July 2021 Up 42.1%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in July 2021 grew by 42.1% year-on-year. Import surged 2.1-fold, and export increased by 48.8%. Cabotage declined by 60.7%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in July 2021 amounted to 0.03%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was up 57.3%. Reefer containers were non-existent in July 2021. Imports made 57.1% of all the laden containers, exports accounted for 37.1%, and cabotage for 5.7% of the total.

    Empty container traffic declined by 33.3%.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 95.4% of the aggregate container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in July. Olya handled 4.6% of the total.
