Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus, has commented on Lithuania’s threat to stop the country’s potash export fertilizers transit via the Lithuanian territory in a recent meeting with journalists.
‘They are shooting themselves in the foot. Now, they are going to close their ports for our potash fertilizers’, the press office of the Belarussian President quotes him as saying.
In that case, Belarus will reroute export shipment to other sea ports. in Russia, Lukashenko said. ‘We will deliver these volumes anyway. We will load them in Murmansk. This is no problem. And we will ship them to China, which our main export market, by the shortest route, along the Northern Sea Route. And to India as well. We ought to start solving the situation. But the ball is in their court.’
Lukashenko said that Belarus is prepared to pursue a dialogue with Lithuania, but with no preconditions. ‘If you will, let us start a dialogue on some level. But with no preconditions. Because Belarus does not deserve such an attitude.’
