Russian Helicopters, part of Rostec State Corp., and Russian Post, have signed an agreement to test drones to deliver letters and parcels in the Chukotka Autonomous Region.
According to Rostec, by the end of the year the partners plan to make first test flight from Anadyr to Ugolnye Kopi. On completing the test period, the parties intend to launch 20 routes served by drones to deliver up to 245 tons per annum.
The project will deploy two drone types developed by Russian Helicopters, the newest BAS-200 model and VRT300.
‘There are many remote destinations in Russia. Using drones will allow of cutting delivery time twice,’ Maxim Akimov, CEO of Russian Post, said.
Russian Post expects to deploy drones on 48 routes in four regions, in Chukotka, Kamchatka, Yamal-Nenets and Khanty-Mansi autonomous regions.
