Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 28, 2021

  • On week 28, the upward trend continued in the Azov-Black Sea region. Thus, the rate for a 3K parcel of wheat from Azov to Marmara reaches $33 per ton this week.

According to Sea Lines shipbrokers, despite the lack of a new crop due to severe weather conditions in the Russian southern regions, spot shipments are quite active, especially for wheat and peas. Hwever, many ship owners cannot accurately determine the laycan dates for the next two weeks as there is no certainty that the current voyages to Turkey will be successfully completed and the vessel is not going to get stuck in the port of discharge due to the upcoming holidays until July 26.

In addition, many charterers are starting to search for a vessel for the concluded contracts for August. The main destinations for such forward shipments at the moment are Turkey and Italy. As for the Russian river, many shippers plan that cargo will begin to arrive in stores within the next two weeks, but shipments are planned no earlier than mid-August.

On week 28, freight rates for 3,000-5,000 dwt bulkers from the port of Azov went up.

According to Sea Lines, freight rates for wheat parcels from Azov made $31 to the Black Sea, $33 to Marmara, $48 to Mersin and $53 to Egypt.

Freight rates from Rostov AB (after bridge) are $1 above, from Rostov BB (before bridge) the same, from Yeisk and Taganrog $1 below, and from Temryuk $3 below those from the port of Azov.

In the Caspian, freight rates declined.

On week 28, freight rates for shipping corn by 3,000 dwt bulkers to Iran made $20 from Aktau, $21 from Makhachkala, and $23 from Astrakhan.

Please note that the rates cited in this article are average market rates. We ask our readers to pay attention that this information is not a commercial offer and cannot be an example for comparison in commercial disputes and arbitration.
