New RMG Cranes at VSC

  • Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company, part of Global Ports Group, has received two new ZPMC rail-mounted gantry cranes (RMG). The new equipment arrived on June 15, 2021, on board the pecialised cargo vessel “Dongbang Giant No. 3” from China.

The new cranes will be installed in the area of berths No.5-6, where the modernisation of two container storage yards with a total area of 23,000 sq. m is being completed. The new equipment with a stacking height of 6+1 will double the capacity of the yards from 2.5 thousand TEU to 5 thousand TEU.

The gantries are to be unloaded and moved to the operating area by the end of June 2021. Once they are on their permanent tracks, ZPMC engineers will start setting up, due to be completed by the end of August 2021. The setting up process will not interfere with VSC’s day-to-day operations, the terminal said.

The new equipment, scheduled to be put into operation in August 2021, will increase the total capacity of the terminal’s storage yard to 27,000 TEUs, thus increasing the overall productivity of the terminal.

Ilia Dolgiy, Аcting Managing Director of VSC, commented: “The reconstruction of storage yards, creation of universal infrastructure and handling equipment upgrade will increase the capacity and productivity of the terminal, bringing benefits to our customers and allowing us to handle an increased cargo traffic in the Far East of Russia.”
