Container Traffic via Russian Ports Up 12.8% in May 2021

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in May 2021 increased by 12.8% year-on-year.

    Export grew by 5%, cabotage by 5.7%, import by 17.5%, and transit surged 2.9-fold.

    Laden container throughput via the Russian sea ports was up 16.8%. Reefer containers accounted for 11.5% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 88.5%. Imports made 52.6% of all the laden containers, exports 33.2%, cabotage 10.4%, and transit 3.9%.

    Empty container traffic decreased by 0.6%.

    The Baltic basin handled 44.5% of the aggregate container traffic via the Russian sea ports in May. The Far East basin handled 38.6%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 14.4%, the Arctic basin for 2.5% and the Caspian basin for 0.05% of the total.
