A new state of the art container port is to be developed in the Special Port Economic Zone in Astrakhan region in the Caspian. The project initiated by Kaspiy PLK at the first meeting of the Special Port Economic Zone expert board. The company signed a memorandum of cooperation with Germany’s Martrade Holding, which will act as a strategic partner in the investment project.
The project envisages building terminals to handled containers and other cargoes in the Special Port Economic Zone. The target capacity of the container terminal is to make 8 mn tons by 2031. The overall territory designated for the project covers 295 ha.
At stage 1, Berths 8 and 9 for 4 terminals with a total capacity of 3.3 mn tons are to be built on the territory adjacent to the Olya Port. The next stage envisages dredging in the Zaburunny Ilmen lake territory, which will accommodate the main port area.
According to Kaspiy PLK, the project will cost more than 27 bn rubles ($356 mn) and give jobs to no fewer than 800 people. The infrastructure is to be developed at the expense of the federal and regional budgets while the container terminals construction will be financed by private investors.
