Russia’s governmental port property management agency has announced a tender to choose the contractor to build a 18 MWt diesel-electric icebreaker.
The 21900М2 Project vessel classed Icebreaker7 is to be delivered in December 2024 and will be deployed in the Northwest basin.
In addition to its primary function to escort vessel to and from freezing ports in winter the icebreaker will be capable to assist vessels in distress, tow vessels and take part in fire-fighting and oil spill liquidation operations.
The vessel will have the КМ Icebreaker7 [2] AUT1-ICS FF2 EPP ECO BWM HELIDECK Special purpose ship notation of the Russian Register of Shipping.
It will be 119.8 m LOA, 27.5 m beam, have a draft of 8.5 m, a speed of 17 knots in ice-free conditions, and will be able to move in solid ice up to 1.5 thick. The crew will consist of 35 people and special personnel of 22 people. The vessel will have an endurance of 40 days.
The initial (maximum) cost of the contract is set at 10.5 bn rubles ($138.5 mn).
